SONG OF THE WEEK: Itch - London Is Burning

Recently, we went to see Awolnation in Paris as part of the band's European tour. They were supported by Arcane Roots and Itch and let's be honest, the latest has been a massive discovery.

No, London Is Burning is not a cover of the classic Clash song but offers the same cultural and political statement. No need to say that Jonny Itch Fox, the lead singer, is a punk fan or to remind you that he was the lead singer in the King Blues, a rap/rock/indie/poetry band. What strikes you most when you see the band live- and when you listen to the song- is the powerful sound they deliver through a blietzkrieg of heavy bass and drum. It's the sound of brewing revolution, it's heavy and disturbing. It's the uncompromising sound of the street.

A band to follow in 2013.

L'évidence est là: Itch est l'un des groupes à suivre en 2013. La raison est simple, leur titre London Is Burning est une bombe rap/rock, c'est le son sans compromis de la révolte qui gronde.

A High And Loud, nous avons découvert le groupe en première partie de Awolnation lors de leur concert au Nouveau Casino et la surprise a été de taille. Blietzkrieg de batterie et basse puissante, chanteur à l'allure à la fois de leader de révolution et de petite frappe, le groupe mélange punk attitude, rap et poésie. Peut-être parce que Jonny Itch Fox s'est à la fois forgé une culture musicale dans la rue dans les années 90 puis est devenu le parolier des King Blues. Du coup, son single London Is Burning est balancé comme un slogan de manif dont on est sûr qu'elle va mal tourner, comme l'étendard du ras-le-bol des jeunes (et des moins jeunes).

Sorte de Firestarter des années 2010, le titre et son clip sont toutefois beaucoup plus dérangeants que ceux de Prodigy . A écouter et à voir sur scène. Le son de Londres est sans négociation celui de Itch.
